Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches
Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches; Have you ever been to a coffee shop that you liked so much and thought it could not get any better, but then you went at night on a Thursday and things got indeed far better? Because that is exactly what happened to me when I first went to Batch. Batch is a fairly new business in the Austin area. It opened no more than a year ago (since the writing of this piece), and since then the shop has grown! What makes this place special, is not just their coffee, but rather their design, atmosphere, alcohol selection, and KOLACHES! So let me break it down into a few different categories and explain in detail what you should expect when you visit Batch Craft Beer and Kolaches.
More than a micro-brewery, this store is also a coffee shop. A perfect place to hang out during the day if you have work to do, or to socialize with friends. While their selection of coffee is simple, their process is the exact opposite. Rest assured that you will get top quality, just grounded, good tasting coffee, and at a very reasonable price! Perhaps my favorite thing about their coffee is that it’s only $2.50. Because for the same quality of coffee in most places are the area, you’d be paying at least $3! One thing that I have not tested out, is the CashApp Boost program here. I’ll update this blog in the future that information.
While they serve coffee here, they also have an extremely large selection of craft beers. From local beer to imports from out of state. Their selection is large enough, that I have never been there and not found something I did not like. Most recently, on my last visit to Batch, I found some craft beer made out of Guava, and unfortunately, there are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe how good it was! And although you technically grab the beer you’d like from their fridges, they will open it for you and pour it into a nice cold glass. And depending on the craft you chose, it will either be in a glass or a cup. That way you’re not drinking fine craft beer directly from the can. Not only that, but you can also buy the beer to go if you wish.
Here’s the thing, now that you’re in Texas, you should probably learn what these are, and how to properly pronounce the name. Batch actually has a nice selection of different types of kolaches. From brisket, sausage, eggs, and even vegetarian kolaches. Their other selection is sweeter. They have kolaches that go well with either craft beer or coffee. Whatever you’re in the mood for, there is kolache that will hit the right spot, for sure! And in case you were curious, they get their meat from Micklethwait Craft Meat. A company that is also from Austin, Texas.
This place has a feel like no other shop does. They are not your typical coffee shop in the Austin area. This establishment is more elegant than most spots, and that’s why I like it. When I come here, I feel like I took a trip to the early 1920s. I feel like I should be dressed up in formal attire while smoking a cigar. Then again, the only reason I feel like that is because I have only ever been here on Thursday nights. Also known as Jazz Nights. Where you can rest assured that the band will play something to really get you in the right mood. Mix that with some of their finest crafts, and you too will feel like you should be dressed up while drinking your craft from their fancy glassware.
However, if being inside a building is not really your thing, then don’t worry. Batch actually has a large patio outside. They have plenty of sun-shades too and areas to sit down, even if you show up with a large party. What is also nice, is that you can bring your doggo to Batch’s patio, which is a great benefit for those who love to spend time with their fur-babies. But remember, dogs can only be in the patio, and not inside the building.
Located just on the outskirts of the Muller neighborhood, I think this place is a little hidden on Manor Rd. I have actually been here multiple times, even when they were fairly busy, and I always found a place to park. Which is always a plus, in my books. Not only that but if you wanted to drink and not have to worry about driving, then I have good news for you. Right outside of Batch, there is a bus stop. Which means that instead of calling an Uber, you could just take the bus here. (Brodie Oaks Station (NB)) It might take a little longer, but it will be cheaper, and more importantly, safer than drinking and driving. Batch is actually growing. Right next to their current location, they will be opening a micro-brewery in the future. So parking may be subject to change.
Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches is a great place to hang out with friends or to work on whatever project you have going on. However, since this is technically more of restaurant/brewery, they don’t open until 8 AM on weekdays, and 10 AM on weekends. And on the same token, they close at 11 PM all week and 10 PM on Sundays. Batch is not really a place to go to if you want to party, but a perfect place to go on a date or hang out with friends and talk over drinks. Now, they do have a stage and an event calendar, so there’s the chance that some local band will be playing when you go, and if that is the case, then don’t forget to tip the band and support your local music scene! Batch seems to attract people with a specific taste of different arts. Everyone I’ve met there had a great story to tell. Not only that, but the staff is always helpful and they really know their stuff. If you’re not sure what you would like, then feel free to ask what it is you are in the mood for, and they will guide you in the right direction.
